23 year old Hackney born Anita Blay aka thecocknbullkid is not the most conventional of pop stars. Fortunately this does little to slow how rapidly she is establishing herself as one of 2009's brightest pop hopes. Anita has little uncertainty about what 2009 needs to bring for her: An exceptional debut album. With 'I'm Not Sorry' we're given a tasty appetizer of what is to come.

Having played all the major festivals in the summer of 2008 and headlined the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury, thecocknbullkid played live on Later With Jools Holland in October whilst still unsigned. A rare but deserved occurrence. Anita and her three piece band then went on to support Santogold before touring with CSS, Metronomy and Late of the Pier. In December, she went on her first European tour with Vice.
Anita is currently holed up in the studio piecing together her debut album. She's working with Dave McCracken, Blue May (who produced I'm Not Sorry), Mark Anthony Tieku and Metronomy's Joseph Mount. Her influences range widely from Morrissey to Madonna to Little Richard and Grace Jones. With this in mind it becomes clear why thecocknbullkid's tracks often carry such dark undertones. 'I'm Not Sorry' is a classic example of this style.

thecocknbullkid will be performing her biggest UK headline show to date on 11th March when she appears at the ICA.
