Matt Harding

Expectation

released 03/09/2006

"Before Bloc Party helped to make it an ultra-hip breeding ground of up-and-cooming bands, London-based indie label Moshi Moshi could just about register on the give-a-shit meter by putting out albums from people such as Matt Harding. It might be the label that creates the initial interest in the album this time, but it's Harding's talent for Lo-fi pop that will end up sustaining it. written and recorded in the main by Harding himself, 'Expectation' brings together genteel folk guitars and glitchy beats a plenty, to create a set of serenly delicate tunes uch as 'Chalk' and 'Basic Pain' - all of which sound exactly like they were written to trigger daydreams in lonely, doe-eyed teenagers. Proof that you don't need friends when you've got music like this" Hardeep Phull - NME album review

"This spaced-out fusion of acoustic strums and muted electronica is ace. Armed with an unerrring ear for a great tune, Matt weaves beguiling tapestries of sound. On his third album there are plenty of trademark instrumental passages but there are also more vocals than before. It makes for a great listen, full of unexpected twists and turns. Simple finger clicks, elegant strings, dazzling piano runs, distant horns, pervasive percussion...all knitted together by insistent guitar. Folktronica never sounded so good" 4.5/5 The Sun LP Review
