Single released 28/05/2007
"Who's this Simone these girls are saying farewell to, then? It's a mystery, as Toyah so honkily put it. Still, it adds to the enigma of this glacially lovely trio - who look like the sisters from the Virgin Suicides, or Mabeth's three witches after a trip through a make-me-beautiful-and-from-Brooklyn machine - and makes this cool, sweet slice of electronic balladry, like a musical baked Alaska, even lovelier. Simone, if you have any sense, say Bonjour again"
"With a current tour listings of over 38 upcoming dates in the next couple of months, be sure to check out this Brooklyn three piece at a town near you soon. Using vintage keyboards, drum machines and multi-layered vocals, Annie, Erika and Heather write warm, soft focus, electronic pop songs that reference everyone from Lali Puna to Postal Service, Stereolab to Hot Chip. Unsurprisingly seeing that the new single is 'Sad Song', this outing for Au Revoir Simone is melancholic, but with an underlying romantic optimism that's immediately infectious, its far from weepy. The b-side is a remix by Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor and is a bleepy, hushed, minimal re-work which is at times even more dreamy that the original. Sweeping chords and new verses sung by Taylor make the b-side the dude's version of lost loves. With visioanary director David Lynch in their corner flying the Au Revoir Simone flag high, its only a matter of time before 'Sad Song' and Au Revoir Simone are household names"

"All girl Brooklyn Trio deliver sassy, shimmering electro pop, Down beat words and upbeat music, but it works" [The Sun The Scenery Review]
"The Brooklyn trio ingest a Nintendo NES and the entire Elliot Smith back catalogue, parping out this beautiful little pouter yet smeling strongly of roses. Ace" [Metro single Review]
Following the release of their debut longplayer 'The Bird of Music' back in March, Brooklyn-based electro trio Au Revoir Simone release their latest single 'Sad Song' on Moshi Moshi Records on May 28.
Au Revoir Simone have come a long way since their informal bedroom band practices back in 2003. Since their very first trips to Europe and Japan a little over a year ago, they've undertaken numerous shows on their own patch (New York), an extensive tour of the US, Canada and Europe supporting fellow Brooklyn-ites We Are Scientists, and have weathered two SXSWs. Not to mention they've drawn glowing endorsements from seminal film-maker David Lynch.
There is more sense in the aforementioned pairing than you would initially imagine: Au Revoir Simone have carved out a place for themselves as a band who create music that it seems obvious and natural to give visual references to (their appeal both aurally and visually has been likened by more than a few to the films of Sophia Coppola). Their music crafts a 3D world of texture, taste and smell, through narrative, melody and the overwhelming sense of 'atmosphere', of timelessness, embedded in their music. Both live and on record, Au Revoir Simone's signature sound remains defined by their instrumentation (vintage drums machines, keyboards and layered vocals form the mainstay of their music-making).
The release of 'Sad Song' comes immediately after the band return to tour the UK May . Although delicately arranged and of a melancholic air - as Au Revoir Simone's music his been historically known to be – despite it's obviously aching title and subject matter (loss..fondly remembering things past and gone..but I'll leave further interpretation to the listener) 'Sad Song' is also a joyous track. Trumpet solos, keyboard solos and the relentlessly onward (and upward?), shuffling journey of keyboards and drum machine, give it an undeniably uplifting edge.
Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor provides his usual: a distinctive remixing/reworking of the track as its B side.
