A five piece band from the North West, Alterkicks met through the smalll ads and settled in Liverpool to embrace a life of credit card abuse and music making.
They are influenced by Radiohead, Love, Jeffrey Lewis, Interpol and The Pixies amongst others but would like to emphasise that this in no way means they sound like any of them. 'Come to a gig' they say.
Alterkicks describe themselves as "Standard format, Drums, Bass, 2 Guitars. Normally there is an acoustic guitar thrown into the mix somewhere as well so that we can be like Hunky Dory era Bowie or the Kinks or something. But not retro, oh no not retro."
Early shows in the Merseyside area saw the band develop a fervent live following quickly and, as the name spread throughout the area, the band found themselves the subject of much public attention. When Zane Lowe played the band's demo on his Radio One show in November of last year, the public were joined by the music industry as A & R men picked up on the band's ever growing reputation and fan base. Soon after came the debut single for Fierce Panda "Do Everything I taught You" and the North West's best kept secret were no longer under wraps.
In 2005 Alterkicks toured with The Tears, The Departure, Thirteen Senses and Little Flames, and released 'another twisted pop jem' of a second single, "Oh Honey".
